The Importance of Emergency Medicine in Bangladesh
In the 1960s, there was no emergency medicine in Bangladesh. The Red Cross spent millions of dollars to build an emergency room at a local hospital. A group of trainees were hired by the ICRC to learn emergency medicine and be trained by Western doctors. "It was quite overwhelming with things that you need day to day," says one doctor who worked on the project.
