Is There a Better Way to Fund Research?

I think in academia, there's this like publisher parish model and there's some kind of quantification and some yards sticks to hit right. And not always the quality is considered, but I think sometimes it's more about quantity. One of them was giving early researchers just the opportunity to have sabbatical where they just spend a year like reading, just learning and doing that instead of having this pressure to keep on publishing. They also said funders should support more risky projects. So maybe the more kind of like venture capsule approach rather than maybe a PE approach to research.
