The story of the reign of commodus was chronicled by the roman aristocracy and they, to man, loathed him. The general population never got a say in the way roman history was written. But if there was one thing that comodis did really well, at least until the very end, it was keeping the people in the street eating out of his often extended hand. By the end, though, he had driven the empire deep, deep into debt and had gone so far off his rocker that even his previously adoring masses turned on him.
