Economists are oblivious to the fact that marriage markets are not natural or universal. They are result of a historical process of deregulation of romantic encounters. The great transformation of romantic encounters is thus the process by which no formal social boundary regulates access to partners. And the intense competition comes to prevail in the process of meeting others.
