Leo Strauss was a well-known political philosopher who taught at the University of Chicago. In his youth, he wrote a book about Spinoza and later on, the book was reissued. He wrote a preface to it where he lays out a defensive orthodoxy against Spinoza. The defense essentially is that Orthodox Judaism is no worse off than the Enlightenment.
