So there's this disagreement and ambiguity over who the successor is. And other countries get involved, right? Louis the fourteenth in france really likes this idea of his grandson taking up the spanish throne and maybe even annexing spain into french domains. This is very appealing to him. But it's not so appealing to everybody else in europe who doesn't want to see a kind of super power unified france spain.
