Train a Medical Algorithm Using Patient-Reported Data
The way we usually train medical algorithms is to tell us what a radiologist would say about the knee. So Z-AD and his team thought, why not train the algorithm with patient-reported data instead? They used that then to tell the algorithm what it was looking for. It found unexpectedly that there were different levels of pain for black patients versus white. The hope is that taking that forward, human radiologists can then be more sensitive when those differences come up.
