In Romans 11, Paul gives a parable of an olive tree very similar to what we see in Jacob chapter 5. The Greek word here is ekla'o, which means to be disconnected or bent, but not severed. And knowing the language there helps out a little bit to really get an idea of this parable talking about no one is beyond the reach of the Savior.
