The Metaphysical Explanation of the World
The world determined according to its intelligible character clear references to Schopenhauer. Nietzsche thinks he's all missed the mark because life, what it really is is procreation and nourishment. They're both aspects of will to power. And this is his experiment of if we're going to attempt to have some, this passage is in some sense metaphysical, but it's a thought experiment.
