The Importance of Cyber Security Expertise in the European Union

The European Union wanted a study of what would happen to safety regulation once you get software and everything you see. The EU is in effect the world's regulator in several dozen verticals from things like medical devices through railway signals to children's toys. Once you start connecting your car to the internet then if there's a vulnerability it can be exploited remotely to cause car crashes or whatever. There's now a debate going on in the EU about whether we compel sellers of mobile phones to patch the software for years in other countries.
