The Mismatch Between the Private Sector and the Public Sector in AI

It seems to me that there's a trust issue in general with our tech companies and what's happened over the last 10 or 15 years with social media. As you point out, it's so clear that the private sector has led the charge in the development of AI; they know so much more about it than our lawmakers do. And we've also heard from President Biden who said that it falls to the companies themselves to ensure their products are safe for consumers. Isn't there a mismatch here?
