Athanasius was known as the great enemy of Arias and so the new emperor was out to get him. Athanasius lived most of his adult life either being exiled or on the run. He put his theology into little ditties to music and he had choirs go singing them through Alexandria. This spread around the Mediterranean so they had choirs going around the city singing there once was a time when the Son was not, all that kind of stuff. What happened he actually turned into pitch battles in some places because in Constantinople this is working for Arias.
