The Female Gaze in Western Ireland

The room is sufficiently well encoded in its imagery to allow it to serve as what I call a theater of memory. There are three figures in the room that actually look at you as you observe the frescoes. The symbolic language here is clear because the mirror within the Dionysian context is the mirror of Dionysus. And this becomes a metaphor for the drawdown of a spirit into incarnation.
