Jerry Levius: A Black Scholar Athlete in the Southwest Conference
Jerry Levius was a three-time all-star quarterback at Southern Methodist University. In 1969, Jerry left college and was drafted by the American football leagues Houston Oilers. Less than two years into his professional career, he asked for a tryout with the Detroit Tigers baseball team. He had to borrow $300 from one of the players in order to get there.
