Snodhill Castle was built by William FitzOsburner after the Norman conquest of Wales. The area that we're standing in is completely overgrown and it's taken about 10 years for community volunteers to make it look like this. There is very little documentary evidence for Snodhill Castle - until 15, 20 years ago I don't think anyone was really aware of his existence. We are sticking out into the middle of the northern end of the Golden Valley. To the west we go right up to the ridge, which is about a mile and a half away from the Welsh border. All along the top of the ridge there we have the remains of a deer park. So this castle sat
