How Do You Decide Which Characters Fit in a Game?

We have two listener questions related to kind of writing and characters as well. We have a Vellic who asks, how do you decide what characters fit in each game's setting? Do you have characters you have to cut because they don't work with that place? And if there are characters that got cut, what is your favorites? Well, I usually stop by like writing a list of animals that could feasibly have like humanoid features, like two legs and hands. So I write like every animal that I can think of that would work for that.
