Why Are Birth Rates Recovering?
In the 1700s, it would have been you needed around three or four children per family. The baby boom peaks in like the late 50s, early 60s and then crashes hard into the 70s. One big reason is immigration. We got more immigrants from high fertility countries that came here. They had fewer children than they're than the people in the countries they came from often but still have more children than Americans who the native, natives in the US were having. Over the last 20 years as immigration has slowed down and as those immigrants have assimilated we now have very low fertility.
