The Importance of Trauma in Therapy

Somatic experiencing has, I would say, greater roots in shamanic conditions than it does in traditional psychological systems. The shaman always has to do his own confrontation with his or her darkness. All shamanism that of anybody I've ever talked about sees the primary cause of all disease as trauma. They call it cis-tus and schistus, which means fright paralysis or soul-off.
