Why We Shouldn't Punish the Drunk Drivers
Our brains answer these different questions using different processes. Intensions are useful for determining whether someone is good and trustworthy in general. But there's another process that looks at how much harm the person caused. Often, these processes align; we punish someone because he intentionally caused harm. In cases like drunk drivers, these processes can come to different conclusions.
