In modernity, there's this idea that we have become disenchanted and distanced from like transcendence and religion. Bataille is an example in many ways of this modern subject who is searching for way, new ways of transcendence within imminence. I think a great example is Alice de Crowley,. who tried to sort of find ways back to the sacred through transgressions or violating all of these like sexual taboos.
