The Rise and Fall of the East Area Rapist

A rape crisis clinic was formed in Sacramento. It proved to be an invaluable refuge for survivors of the East Area rapist and survivors of other rapes. In 1976, the Sacramento Sheriff's Department investigated over 300 rape cases. The majority were known offenders, not strangers in the night. Unreported rape cases were estimated to be at least double that.
