WebAssembly

WebAssembly can be really great for manipulating image formats on the web but turns out that the vast majority of people don't need to use it. For a lot of stuff you still need kind of a bridge from WebAssembly to the DOM through JavaScript. If I were to write predictions now for five years into the future, if we're going to see WebAssembly anywhere, I think it's actually going to be on the back end or in edge computing rather than in the browser.
