The Importance of Property Taxes

Most people don't think the government literally owns every house in the country, he says. If you stop making your mortgage payments and they eventually kick you out and take the house, that to them is not because they agree really that the government owned your house. Most people also support the existence of property taxes but even those people don't look at it the exact same way. So that's what I'm getting at there is that the justification in terms of property rights that you would have to use in that scenario is to say you owe the government money for all these services they're giving you in the normal way that they get paid.
