The Power of Reverse Engineering in First Language Teaching
A variety in instruction is really crucial for maintaining engagement, especially with younger learners. If you're going to do something that requires a lot of focus, like reading a poem on the whiteboard together as a class, you'll probably want to follow that up with something more fun,. Like singing a song or moving around a bit. Our general rule of thumb was age plus two for the number of minutes kids could sit before you should move them. You might even use the first language to help you with English or vice versa to do kind of a reverse engineering.
