Right ot the heart of morality is this notion that we have a concern for other people's interests. The way you described it, that concern is really just a concern for our own genes. So commanyi ase too. Let's think about this in a slightly different way. It's not that an individual is maximising his self interest in anything like a straightforward conscious way. When we do things like fall in love, it's not because we licitly say to ourselves, oh, well, you know, i must get on with propagating my genes. That's all kind of background stuff.
