Elephants and whales both use these low frequencies to communicate. Some whale songs can travel thousands of miles because sound travels so well through water. But no matter what a sound is traveling through, the lower pitches end up travelling farther than higher ones. You can test this yourself by putting something hollow over your ear, like an empty pringle's can. If you tap your finger on the end of the can, it will sound something like this.
