I Don't Remember All the Stuff From the First Book

Most of it, they made up the whole thing with stephan, the crying ward warder. They spent forty minutes on this story line that, to me, was quite boring and why would you waste that when you only have eight episodes? One question i have regarding stuff that happens in the show verses the books is a, ah, there's that big flash back to like, a long time ago. Is that from future books, or no, iteror yel it wall, ok.
