History Storytime - For Kids

CHAPTER

The History of the Roman Army

The Carthaginians had an amazing general called Hannibal. He made a solemn promise to his father that he would always be an enemy of Rome. The Romans got their army ready in the south of Italy which was the part nearest to Carthage. But Hannibal decided to attack the Romans at the other end of Italy where the Romans least expected it. To get into Italy from the north you have to cross a huge mountain range called the Alps. It's very high up and there's snow everywhere. No one thought it was possible to cross the Alps with an army.
