Carlos: We always assume sort of the status quo is going to be our options for the future. But we really don't know what innovations will come that could solve this much faster, potentially. Carlos also talked about how BBVA is moving to lower the carbon profile of its portfolio in high emissions intensity sectors. It is mobilizing capital for the low carbon transition, including through microfinance credits for vulnerable people.

The low-carbon transition will require some major innovations, a rapid buildout of existing technologies, and significantly more financing, the recently released synthesis report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states.
