Wanting the Power of Memetic Desire in Everyday Life
Mimetic is a variation on the word imitation. The thinker that inspired my book, René Girard, was a Christian French man who came to the US shortly after World War II. He identified this feature of imitation and he realized that humans actually imitate the desires of other people. We often adopt desires as our own whether they're good or bad, believing somehow it will make us happy.
