In episode 28, we were setting the stage for the of the republic. To day, we are observing the result of that all important social and political transformation. The romans had become a society of self indulgent sloths whose lives revolved around ostentatious displays of wealth or petty gossip. And this is all to say nothing of the legions, once comprised entirely of citizen farmer soldiers.
