Marcos declares martial law justifying that they've got to fight the communists, even though there were only about 800 communist insurgents in the entire Philippines at that point. Marcos ruled into the late 1980s. The CIA had backed his rivals at first. They eventually came around to the old lug and his communist slaughtering ways.
