Is It Inevitable?
I think personality does play a major part in the course of history. Would it have happened if Vladimir Putin hadn't come to power? And it's a question which people are talking about here. I remember last week I had a chat with Gregori Yevlinsky, the veteran liberal politician who believes that it would have happened anyway. But there's another point of view which thinks that no, the collapse of the Soviet Union meant that something like this was inevitable.
