In 17 28, an englishman named ephraim chambers published a two volume encyclopaedia. The book became quite popular and was reprinted several times in the following decades. In the 17 forties, two scholars translated chambersEncyclopaedia into french and prepared it for publication. Their collaboration fell apart when one of them got into a physical fight with the publisher and took him to court. They eventually both left the project.
