Is There a Difference Between the Idealist and the Materialist?
A reaction against theological liberalism arose within the academic mainline traditions of Christianity, especially coming out of Germany. And so you do have an oppositional relation develop between divine revelation and the scriptures versus the kind of what natural humans can come up to in their fallen state through the natural sciences. So there is a dualism and the dialectical theologians for the most part did not try to synthesize those because they did recognize they were at odds. They were distortions of original Christian insight and they went their own way.
