Is There Something Oddly Reassuring About Asteroid Impact?

The threat of an asteroid compared to the climate emergency or even now with threat of a nuclear catastrophe seems closer than it has done for a long time. I don't know, is there something quite reassuring about thinking the idea of an asteroid impact might be a threat in 100 years, but we already know how to reverse it? It made me think about aliens and what would happen if we detected, say, an unambiguous signal from an alien civilization.
