The Byzantine Empire and Its History

Vitellian's revolt against Anastasius may seem obscure but I wouldn't include anything that wasn't giving you important information. The fact that Vitellian led a revolt at least publicly based on the Emperor's religious beliefs is a major change for an empire which once let anyone believe whatever they wanted. We'll begin this exploration with the former Roman provinces which slipped from imperial control in the fifth century. When Justinian gets his hands on Anastasia's treasure reserve he will attempt to take back what was lost and so we need to know what kind of world we'll be dealing with.
