Echolocation for dolphins is very similar to bats and that they make a click sound. That provides them with some sort of something maybe like a mental image of what's out there. Echolocation is directional in the sense that it doesn't just go out willy nilly. The clicks that you've made also go I can hear them they go into my jaw, so whatever you're echolocating on I see in my brain.
