Is the Next Generation of Computers Going to Do Both?
There's this interesting debate in the cultural evolution community about things like what's called over imitation. We imitate even fine level details that we don't really need to imitate, right? So you can take chimps and children, and you have someone do perform a whole bunch of complicated bills and whistles to bring about a particular kind of effect. And the chimps will read through to what the actual problem is that you're trying to solve, and the kids will put in on bells and whistles. It would be nice to actually have people working out the science.
