In 13th century Europe, you probably had to be pretty careful who you told about your dreams. The western religious vision of acceptable states of mind eventually gave way to a scientific vision in which intuition and imagination fared no better at all. Intuition is chaos. Hello, Jordan Peterson. It is less than reason. It is the domain of females and wandering artists. It is superstition. It is primitive. We can call this loosely the colonization of consciousness. Every culture has its veil through which it views the world. But like the bedridden Sei and the story, we are perhaps not complete unless the visionary state is honored.
