The Effects of Early Intervention on Schizophrenia
In schizophrenia there's a so-called prodrome that may be a third maybe a half of individuals who eventually end up with a diagnosis schizophrenia have an identifiable prodrome. The earlier we get someone to treatment after their first true psychotic episode, the better they will do. We need to be able to identify them earlier and get them into early intervention. If you give people wrap around services, including medication, but also including supportive employment, case management, and other psychosocial interventions it can improve their two year outcomes.
