The History of the Lawn Mower
The first lawn mowers were purely mechanical, relying on gears and blades that were mounted on a drum like cylinder. If those aren't more efficient than a scythe, why would you bother? And the answer is, drum roll please, vanity. Lawns are not natural environments. They can be environmentally unfriendly. It's really an example of human's cutting back nature to suit our own aesthetics.
