The Kushites of Nubia
The Kushites of Nubia had been observing the instability of upper Egyptian lands throughout the 8th century BCE. They saw an opportunity to take action against the nation that on so many occasions had subjugated them. Now it was their turn to make the Egyptians miserable, starting with the Thebans. It seems evident that over the course of time the Nubians had been exposed to Egyptian religion and as such they were very familiar with it. So when the Kushites attacked Upper Egypt, they did it in the name of the Egyptian deity Amun.
