The Effects of Absenteeism on Achievement Gaps
There are some children for whom we just do not know where they are or what they're doing. To a certain extent, we've been talking mostly about persistent absentees. But one of the things which is quite clear from the figures that we've talked about before is that actually absenteeism has increased across the board. In other words, it is quite likely that more far more children are spending a fair bit more time off school. What impact does that have on what job teachers have to do?
