Is Franz Kafka a Depressive?

I haven't read any of his work for probably ten years before reading this. The memories that this invokes and it is immensely evocative in me. What he was actually trying to say about America is rather concealed or rather implicit. He's constantly cross-wiring the affection of family with creepy, voyeuristic sexuality. This is the dawning of the American century isn't it at this point?
