The Importance of Hearing Original Voices
Henry Mayhew is the big monster figure in this field, and he's slightly a monster who you want to do battle with. I think for me it's the opportunity to really hear people speak. We've convinced ourselves that we can't hear original voices. In anyone, especially in people like Arthur Mundy as well,. He's a great diarist who I adore for his reading of women especially. But doesn't there have to be a moment where we allow those words that were recorded to be real?
