But if they'd made a different choice back here, their future would have gone in another direction. And so he has an image of how that works - it's like a pyramid. The best world is going to be at the top of the pyramid. He sees these very horrible outcomes and tries to make the time stream move into the one particular future with no prolonged suffering or any other horrible outcomes.
