The Importance of Conservation

I love red squirrels, I think they're beautiful. But this debate gets to the heart of what we mean by conservation. Some people it means keeping things as they are now. Others it means turning the clock back and trying to recreate something that doesn't exist anymore or perhaps never existed at all. It carries an aesthetic element, which is actually about making things pretty. Even though that prettiness is much more of a human creation than a natural state.
