The term identity politics is a term that was coined in 1977, and what's known as the Combahee River Collective. They had erupted out of this kind of fusion of the radical feminism of the time in the 1970s. It does not refer to what happened when Martin Luther King held up signs saying I am a man. The Civil Rights Movement was about breaking down identity. This Crenshaw has different something different in mind here, very different.
