The Court's History on the Voting Rights Act
Sally Kohn: The Voting Rights Act is one of the great achievements of American democracy to achieve equal political opportunities regardless of race. She says it was strengthened in 1982 when this court interpreted it too narrowly for Congress's taste, and made this into a results test. Kohn: I don't think Milligan sudden marked this magic turn to protecting voting rights. But there will be a hearing on these Alabama maps on Monday, you know, the day this episode comes out.
